Physical Therapy at Hoskins Medical Center

Physical therapy, also known as physiotherapy, may include certain exercises, massages and treatments based on physical stimuli (e.g. heat, cold, electrical currents or ultrasound). The aim of physical therapy is to relieve pain, help you move better or strengthen weakened muscles.

Physical therapy (PT) is care that aims to ease pain and help you function, move, and live better. The benefits of Physical Therapy can relieve pain, improve movement, prevent disability, provide rehab after stroke, auto accident or injury, work on balance to prevent slip/fall, and learn how to use assistive devices such as a walker or cane.

Benefits of physical therapy include:
  • pain management with reduced need for opioids.
  • avoiding surgery.
  • improved mobility and movement.
  • recovery from injury or trauma.
  • recovery from stroke or paralysis.
  • fall prevention.
  • improved balance.
  • management of age-related medical problems.

Types of Physical Therapy we Offer

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists work with patients to improve their movement and manage their pain with a treatment plan. PTs use a variety of techniques to help their patients, including hands-on therapy, strengthening and stretching exercises, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, ice/heat, and much more

Your physical therapist will examine you and talk to you about your symptoms and your daily activity. Your therapist will then work with you on a treatment plan. The goals are to help your joints move better and to restore or increase your flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance.

Auto-Accident Therapy

Throughout your car accident injury treatment program, your physical therapist may incorporate techniques such as: Manual therapy to mobilize joints, decrease scar tissue, reduce inflammation and promote tissue healing. Custom exercises to address neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, spine dysfunction or weakness.

Car accident physical therapy is beneficial for many reasons. It helps reduce pain, improve mobility and function, and regain strength and balance—all without the use of medication.

Post-Operative Physical Therapy

Physical therapy allows patients to recover faster and regain mobility quickly after surgery and also ensures that any repairs or replacements made during surgery will heal properly. Many patients prefer physical therapy for pain management as a way to avoid opioid medications.

Neurological

Neurological Therapy includes recovery from any neurological conditions which can include Alzheimer’s’ disease or strokes. Recovery from spinal and brain injuries also require neurological physical therapy.

Occupational

Occupational therapy enables people of all ages to participate in daily living. Occupational therapy intervention uses everyday life activities (occupations) to promote health, well-being, and your ability to participate in the important activities in your life. This includes any meaningful activity that a person wants to accomplish.

Pediatric

Pediatric physical therapy treatments often focus on helping children reach developmental milestones, improving mobility or easing pain. Treatment is especially important for children because they are still developing.

Geriatric

Geriatric physical therapy helps older adults regain the muscle strength, balance, and coordination needed to improve their ability to walk, their overall mobility and level of functioning, and their independence so they can perform everyday tasks.
